Australia

Since we were young, me and my best friends decided that we had to go to Australia after we finished high school. We all took jobs and after new year, 3. january we were off to Australia.

After spending 32 hours and 15 minutes on the plane, we were finally in Sydney. It was such and overwhelming distance. Australia is almost as far as it can come from Norway.

First we visited Sydney. My first impression was just: wow! The city was amazing. We were all gasping for air when we saw how big it was, and how different from all we had experienced before. The climate was hot,  because the seasons is the opposite from Norway. They got summer when we got winter. Well, the first day we head to town and got to see The Sydney Opera House. The building was beautiful, I have never seen anything like that before. And yeah, that's probably why it's the most famous building in Australia.

After spending a week in Sydney we got to experience the good shopping opportunities, among the nice restaurants and tourist attractions. We stayed at a really nice hotel, compared to our not-so-good economy.

After a week we were heading of to Cairns to explore The Grand Barrier Reef. It is over 2 000 kilometers long and you can see from space. This reef got 1500 different fish species, 125 shark species and 215 bird species. The Grand Barrier Reef is also known as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. There are huge distances in Australia, and since we were going from Sydney to Cairns we had to take a plane which took us exactly 3 hours and 5 minutes.

While we were sitting in the water taxi, on our way to the reef, I was so exited. The whole area was magnificence. The water was fantastic, light turquoise, my favorite color. When we reached the reef I couldn't believe my eyes. We could see several different kinds of fish and I thought I was going to faint when I saw this weird creature. I don't know what it was, but some kind of a shark. The colors was amazing. Red, blue, purple, green, yellow, all kind of colors. Since I'm afraid of sharks we got showed around with a boat with a glass bottom instead of scooba diving. Even though I think it must have been quite more exiting.

After a long day, we got to the hotel and went straight to bed.

BLOOD DIAMOND

I've seen this film before, and I have to say it tears me up every time I watch it. It's such a powerful movie, and it really gets you thinking about how great your own life is compared to others. Not just being a heartbreaking story, it is also a beautiful one. It shows how strong the bounds between people are and how much we appreciate each other. The story takes place in South -Africa, Sierra Leone in the 1990's during the civil war. When Solomon gets separated away from his family we can feel his pain, and how eager he is to find them. By finding this rare pink diamond during his stay in the diamond mines Archer offers him to exchange and help him find his missing family. This becomes an adventure where you get even more emotional attached to the main characters. The scene where they find the diamond and Solomon's son points at them with a gun really touches me. How much love we get to see in this scene is just overwhelming. After watching it the first time with my friends we all agreed that we would never buy a diamond for our selves. The movie made such a big impact on all of us. We got to see how people struggle everyday and that we can't just watch this happen to people who are worth as much as everybody else. Maybe our little pact won't do much of a difference, but it show that we care and we will not support how things are done over there. I would highly recommend this movie for everybody I know. Blood diamond is definitely one of my favorite movies!
